Funding for North Galway monuments
TEMPLE Jarlath in Tuam and Castlehacket Tower House near Belclare are among 11 community monuments to receive funding for conservation and safeguard works in the county.
The funding has been awarded under the 2025 Community Monuments Fund that helps owners and custodians of archaeological monuments to safeguard them into the future.
Galway’s 11 projects have received a combined funding of €667,033 out of which the Temple Jarlath in Tuam has received €99,835 while the Castlehacket tower house in Belclare has received a grant of €29,827.
A total of €7.5 million has been announced in funding for 122 projects in the country.
The Community Monuments Fund supports a range of initiatives to conserve, maintain, protect and promote local monuments and historic sites. This investment safeguards monuments for the benefit of communities and the public.
It does so by enabling conservation works and repairs as well as building resilience through protecting monuments from the effects of extreme weather and climate change.
The scheme also encourages public access and improvements to the presentation of local monuments.
Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne, TD, said: “The importance of our archaeological heritage cannot be overstated, and this fund has a very real and profound impact on the custodians and communities in our cities, villages, towns and countryside.”
