Athenry pupil wins art award

A PUPIL from Athenry was among three Galway students who won top prizes in this year’s Texaco Children’s Art Competition.

Ten-year-old Brian Cosgrave from Carnaun National School, Athenry won a Special Merit Award, along with Íse Leonard (11) from Áine Doherty Art School, Oughterard. These awards were for artworks described by Final Adjudicator and Irish artist Pauline O’Connell that “displayed high levels of skill and creativity”.

In the 14-15 years age category, Aibhlinn Faulkiner (age 14), a pupil at Coláiste Éinde in Salthill, won third prize for her work entitled My Grandad.
