County Ploughing will make welcome return to Corofin
Strong tradition of ploughing in area
THE County Ploughing Match returns to Corofin for the first time in 30-plus years.
Pat Stephens’ land on the edge of Corofin village, in the townland of Ballynacreg, is the venue for the 2025 Galway County Ploughing Match on Sunday, March 9. The event was held by the Moylough Ploughing Club last year. The Corofin Ploughing Club, which includes the Cummer area, last hosted it in successive years in 1988 and ’89.
“It was held in Hession’s land in ’88 and ’89. There was some amount of traffic. You’d cars coming in from the main road (N17) and from the Corofin side,” recalled Ollie Furey, secretary of the Corofin Ploughing Club.
Entries for the 2025 Galway County Ploughing Match are being accepted until 8pm on Thursday, March 6. Interested parties from neighbouring counties can contact Bridget Higgins on 087-2287108 or Mairead Kelly (assistant secretary of the Galway County Ploughing Association) on 087-7776070 for further details.
