Seven years on — Kilbannon road project is set to start

Work on the long-awaited on the multi-million euro Kilbannon Road realignment project is expected to begin before summer with a contractor due to be appointed in the coming weeks

The project, first initiated by a local campaign in 2017, will realign the one kilometre stretch of R332 from Duddy’s Pub to Kilconly GAA pitch on the outskirts of Tuam.

The blackspot has been highlighted as a danger for pedestrians and cyclists using the route.

Initial funding for development was secured in 2019. However, with the recent allocation of €1.7million for the project, it is hoped that the work will start on the ground as soon as a contractor is appointed.
