Homes ransacked in weekend raids

Fire caused damage

GARDAI are investigating a number of burglaries that occurred around the Bank Holiday weekend where homes in Claregalway and Ballygar were ransacked.

On Sunday evening a house in Lackaghmore, Turloughmore was broken into sometime between 9pm and 11 pm.

The homeowner had been out at the time and returned home to discover the house had been broken into and ransacked.

Gardaí in Loughgeorge Garda Station are investigating the break-in and are eager to speak with anyone who might have information on the incident to contact them on 091-842870.

On Friday, a homeowner in the Ballygar area returned home to also find the house ransacked after culprits broke into the property. A number of pieces of jewellery were among the items snatched.

The break-in occurred in Hermitage, Ballygar between 5.50pm and 7.30 pm on October 25.

Gardaí in Ballygar are looking to speak to anyone who may have been in the area around this time and observed any suspicious activity or indeed anyone who may have any information in relation to this incident. They are asked to contact Ballygar Garda Station on 090-6624512.

Another burglary occurred on the same evening in Toomard, Newbridge between 6.35pm and 11.30pm. The homeowner returned home to discover the front door had been forced open. Anyone who has any information in relation to this incident are also asked to contact Ballygar Garda Station.

Meanwhile gardai are investigating damage to a tractor and the lighting of a fire in the Claregalway area on Monday, October 28.

Gardaí in Loughgeorge are investigating a criminal damage incident which occurred at Cahergowan on Monday at 7.30pm. A fire was started in a field causing damage in the area and damage was caused to a tractor at the same location. Anyone who has any information in relation to this incident are asked to contact Loughgeorge Garda Station on 091-798122.
