Musical memories of Pop Poll concerts

Before the era of The Saw Doctors, Boy Bands or Beyoncé, the crowds and buzz around Co. Galway when The Tuam Herald held its formative Pop Poll Concerts in the mid-1970s and early 80s was palpable. The feel-good factor spread across the West, and possibly even creating a crescendo nationwide too.

The A-list of chart-topping entertainers then included several acts with B in their names such as The Bay City Rollers, who were possibly the first boy band. But while they never played at the Pop Poll concerts many others with B in their names did.

They included Big Tom, Philomena Begley and possibly the nearest to a local Boy Band from that era, Galway's Big Time ...
