Galway goals send Dublin crashing out

AN Aoife O'Rourke goal deep in extra-time handed the Galway ladies one of their most dramatic and famous victories and simultaneously sent holders Dublin crashing out of this year's All-Ireland Senior Ladies Football Championship.

A thrilling quarter-final late on Saturday evening carried echoes of their male compatriots producing a near identical result when dethroning Dublin in the Sam Maguire Cup at nearby Croke Park just seven days earlier.

It amounted to the shock of the season as Galway went into the Jackies' own backyard at Parnell Park and despite being forced to hang tough for long spells, showed guts, perseverance and character to stay in the game and strike at the death.
