Appeal for help to plant 500 trees for Glenamaddy this Good Friday

GLENAMADDY’S green-fingered gang are putting out an open call for help to ensure some 500 Irish native trees are planted this Good Friday.

The Glenamaddy Community Garden volunteers have been busy planning ways to improve the area’s biodiversity and hope to create a woodland area for future generations to enjoy.

The garden, located on the Creggs Road, is home to several polytunnels and raised beds, where a beautiful mix of vegetables and flowers are grown and enjoyed throughout the year.

Members of the Community Garden have increased over the past year, with about 20 people attending the weekly sessions where they share their knowledge or pick up new skills.

“We’ve a lot of work done and we’ve planned a lot more to do,” tells Bernie Connelly, who is a regular at the garden.

The volunteers have secured an acre of land at the back of their garden site and have over recent months managed to put in pathways so that after planting and when the trees grow, it will be an amenity that can be enjoyed by everyone.
