Impressive second half display gets Claregalway school over the line

COLÁISTE Bhaile Chláir are back in the Connacht Post Primary Schools Senior ‘A’ final for the second year in succession, following their victory, with a bit to spare, over Rice College of Westport in Bekan last Thursday, writes Mike Rafferty.

Although the Mayo school had the advantage of the considerable elements in the opening half, their two-point interval advantage was of the slender variety and once the Galway side knocked over the first six scores of the second period it gave them a cushion that was only once threatened thereafter.

The Claregalway school’s ten-point tally on the resumption came from some smashing shooting and while Stephen Curley and Eanna Monaghan might have shared the majority of it, it was the contributions of those around them that made it happen.

Depending on the requirements, Coláiste Bhaile Chláir produced a very balanced performance. They dropped numbers deep in defence in the opening half to give Rice College as few shooting opportunities as possible…
