Singer Sandy Kelly tells her story in new book
WHEN the former RTE Northern Editor Tommy Gorman described the new book by singer Sandy Kelly as “searingly honest”, he summed it up succinctly.
Tommy, who is himself a best-selling author of his own book titled Never Better, did an hour-long interview with Sandy at a packed event in The Hawk’s Well Theatre in their native Sligo last weekend.
In her new book, In My Own Words, Sandy doesn’t mince her words when she talks about the good times singing and recording with Johnny Cash, and the bad times afterwards when she and husband Mike hadn’t enough money to pay for heating oil for their home.
She also opens her heart about the unusual divorce, where Sandy and Mike still live in the one house and remain best friends; about caring for their special needs daughter Barbara; and the death through suicide of her only sister – a singer also named Barbara.
