High Hopes for High Cross
Tuam’s newest school launches
A NEW era in secondary school education has commenced this week with the opening of High Cross College in Tuam, which with almost 900 students becomes the town’s biggest second-level institution.
Principal Neasa Cosgrove welcomed the 116 First Year students to the co-educational school on Tuesday morning, as they embarked on the next phase of their educational journey, telling them they were a part of a historic day for Tuam.
The school was approved last year following the decision of patron body CEIST to amalgamate Presentation College and Mercy Secondary School and marks the end of all girls’ schooling in the town.
A new school building has been approved and will be constructed on the grounds of the Mercy campus, with High Cross College operating across both the Pres (south campus) and Mercy (north campus) in the interim. The First-Year cohort is based in the Presentation College building, with signage on both schools to be replaced with new HCC insignia in the coming weeks…
