Tour of Galway and Mayo leads Taoiseach to Headford meeting
ORIGINALLY a doctor by profession, Leo Varadkar was told about the dearth of GPs to service the Headford, Annaghdown and Corrandulla areas, at last Thursday evening’s ‘Rural Roadshow’.
The floor was opened to members of the public and local political representatives to have their queries listened to and answered by the Taoiseach in the Angler’s Rest Hotel, owned by Frank and Marie Heneghan.
Fine Gael and Headford Cllr Andrew Reddington chaired the meeting, and like Fine Gael MEP Maria Walsh of Shrule, he spent much of Thursday with the Taoiseach at his various appointments in Galway and Mayo.
While not all of those who attended the public meeting had their topics answered by the Taoiseach, he did speak on other matters aside from GPs, matters such as vacant buildings, one-off housing, respite for people with autism, rural crime, school funding issues, the redress compensation scheme for people who were in the Tuam Mother and Baby Home, local authority funding, the invasive carp that was caught in Lough Corrib recently, and others…
