THERE are many mementos on walls in a home that can give a hint of a person’s past life. Framed CDs and album covers, a striking black and white portrait, and a tranquil landscape print of calm and still water are a small reflection of the dynamic decades that have made up the life so far of Tuam’s John Turps Burke.

From years spent struggling in emotional darkness, the man known to many as one of the original members of The Saw Doctors, has embraced positivity and is using his experiences to help others.

A survivor of sexual abuse as a child, a heart attack and more recently cancer, the singer-songwriter and musician had used alcohol to treat his psychological pain for far too long…
