Galway ladies footballers qualify for National League final
WHEN Galway and Mayo met in last year's National League, Michael Moyles’ charges plundered six goals in a harsh defeat for Galway’s new management team of Maghnus Breathnach and Fiona Wynne. It ended their league campaign even if they did gain revenge in the Connacht final, writes Darren Kelly.
Fast forward 12 months and Mayo netted twice again through Tara Needham and Rachel Kearns. This time, however, the Tribeswomen are a growing outfit who maintained their composure to dig out a one-point win.
“If you contrast with the 2022 campaign, when we got hit for goals, our reaction was probably quite poor,” said Breathnach. “And we got few sucker punches after that. Mayo last year in the league, Kerry last year in the championship as well.
“They’re (the players) finding the answers on the field which is fantastic. And they’re not waiting until half-time to come in for us to give them some sort of talk. They’re not panicking. You can see from the actions, it’s on to the next ball, the next ball, the next ball, the next ball…
