Meath test ‘will stand to us’
Galway will benefit from experience of trip to All-Ireland champions, says Wynne
THEY say you're either winning or you're learning though a draw left Fiona Wynne and the Galway management team with plenty to ponder too, writes Paul Keane.
“A huge learning curve for us,” said the Galway joint-manager as she reflected on a cracking, if cagey, encounter with the National League and All-Ireland title holders.
Only a border separates Meath from Dublin but, in footballing terms, they are galaxies apart with Meath's defensive outlook the yin to Dublin's attack minded yang.
So, Galway went from what was at times a free-flowing and open game against Dublin the previous weekend to something more cat-and-mouse-like at Páirc Tailteann.
“I suppose what we will have learned from this is how to react and how to respond in a pressure environment,” said Wynne.
“There was a huge crowd for Meath, they cheered on everything Meath did. It was difficult to hear and it was difficult to get messages on to the players. So, to actually experience a game like that will stand to us in the future.”
