Reimagine Headford report cites sport amenities among best
THE first insight into what is needed to transform Headford town centre was delivered this week as part of a national effort to reimagine the built environment of the area.
The Reimagine Headford report was launched at the Angers Rest Hotel on Monday evening, when members of Headford Town Team were joined by executives from Galway County Council and the local community.
Headford was one of four regions in the country to be chosen in June 2021 to participate in the Reimagine programme, run by the Irish Architecture Foundation, to support communities to transform the centre of their towns.
The Headford team were paired with a member of the Reimagine Professional Panel with the aim of breathing life back into Main Street by looking beyond long-standing traffic issues in the town.
The street is an Architectural Conservation Area with most of its 18th and 19th century street structure and sense of enclosure intact.
A survey issued last spring formed the basis of the report which identified that traffic, parking and derelict buildings in the town were the worst things about living in Headford.
Community, historical sites and sport amenities were considered the best things about living in the town by respondents, 75 per cent of whom have lived most of their lives in the area or longer than 10 years…
