High Cross College is unveiled
New amalgamated co-ed school in Tuam is named
TUAM’s new amalgamated co-educational secondary school, that will commence across two campuses in the town from next September, has been formally announced as High Cross College.
The amalgamation of Presentation College and Scoil Bhríde girls’ schools, which will accept boys from September, was announced earlier this year by patron of both schools, CEIST, following approval by the Department of Education.
A Steering Committee was set up last month, involving the two school principals and deputy principals, representatives of staff, parents and boards of management, with its first task to name the new school.
Students, parents and staff of both schools were invited to submit suggestions with a shortlist of four put forward for a vote, the deadline for which closed on Monday.
The four suggestions were: Árd Rí College, Coláiste Dochais, College of the Assumption and High Cross College, with the latter receiving most votes…
