Tesco Ireland opens in Tuam
First of nine store openings in Galway following Joyce’s acquisition
TESCO Ireland has today opened the doors to a brand-new Tesco store at Tuam Shopping Centre.
The retailer has carried out a major renovation and rebrand of the former Joyce’s Supermarket, located at the Tuam Shopping Centre. The new store was officially opened by store manager, Rory Tierney, who welcomed the first customers into the almost 14,000 square foot store ,which is bringing employment and a new customer shopping experience to the local community.
Managed by Rory Tierney, an experienced store manager, the Tesco Tuam team will be made up of 39 colleagues. The vast majority of these colleagues have been recently welcomed to the Tesco business, along with some new colleagues, all of whom are from the Tuam area.
Geoff Byrne, Chief Operating Officer, Tesco Ireland said: “We’re very excited to open the doors of our new Tuam store as it joins our 154-store network across the country. As we celebrate 25 years in Ireland, we are delighted to open this first store of nine in the Galway area.
“We are committed to ensuring that these new stores play a big part in local communities and we’re looking forward to serving the Galway community for many years to come.”
Rory Tierney, Store Manager, Tesco Tuam added: “It’s a big day for the team here as we officially open our Tuam store and it’s great to see customers coming through the doors already.
“A lot of work has gone into opening today and I am excited to get to know the local community in the coming days and weeks. The team and I are looking forward to welcoming customers old and new into our store.”
The supermarket features will include customer favourite F&F, which has a fantastic selection of adults and children’s seasonal clothing made to last.
Through Clubcard Prices, customers will be able to get as much value as possible from their shopping, with exclusive deals on everything from everyday staples to treats, while also getting rewarded with Clubcard points.
Customers will also be able to shop Tesco Mobile prepay deals and handsets in the Tuam store, including the recently launched Prepay Data Plus plan which features unlimited data for only €15 per month.
Tesco is also proud supporter of the communities it serves. The Tuam Store Community Fund will support the local area with donations to three local causes, Tuam Stars GAA Club, Tuam Juvenile Athletics Club, and Gardenfield National School, benefiting from the store’s first campaign.
Through the food surplus redistribution programme, FoodCloud partners and OLIO Food Waste Heroes will be on hand to ensure no good food goes to waste. The team at Tuam will also join Tesco’s continued efforts to support its charity partner, Children’s Health Foundation, which supports all sick children in CHI at Crumlin, Connolly, Temple St and Tallaght hospitals.
