Caherlistrane GAA continue to develop their facilities
SUNDAY was an important day for Caherlistrane football followers in more ways than one.
Many were in Croke Park for the All-Ireland final on Sunday July 24, a date that also marked the 45th anniversary of Caherlistrane GAA pitch’s official opening.
“Canon O’Dea was President of the County Board, and he helped us get the pitch during the 1950s, at least 20 years before we got the work done on it and finished,” said Caherlistrane’s JJ Higgins.
“There was nothing here only bushes and briars; we began to develop it in 1973 and 1974.”
Two exhibition games were played on the new pitch on July 24 of 1977. Caherlistrane took on their neighbours Corofin in the first game, with the ‘Old Firm’ derby of Galway and Mayo to follow…
