Local heritage projects receive funding boost
EIGHT heritage groups throughout north and east Galway have shared almost €70,000 in Heritage Council funding for a host of projects ranging from church conservation to charting the story of early midwives in Ireland.
Groups in Annaghdown, Athenry, Donaghpatrick/Kilcoona, Glinsk, Milltown, Monivea and Skehana were successful in the funding round which will help to conserve and restore built cultural and natural heritage throughout the country.
The largest grant in the county was awarded to Glinsk Community Development Society, who can now begin work on the first phase of works to conserve Ballinakill Abbey. The funding of €20,000 will kickstart the project that is being carried out in conjunction with Galway County Council.
The ongoing work to restore St Andrew’s Church in Kilconly received a boost with a grant of over €19,000 to support the next phase of works at the historic site …
