Finding hope at Cuan Mhuire

Vital fundraiser to meet €1 million operational costs

WITHOUT centres like Cuan Mhuire in Coolarne, it’s very difficult to imagine how this constantly changing nation of ours would cope with providing the adequate help, advice and, most importantly, hope to those struggling with alcohol, drug or gambling addictions within our communities.

Cuan Mhuire operates on an annual budget of approximately €1 million, but for the past two years – due to the Covid-19 pandemic – the addiction support centre has been unable to fundraise.

In early May, past and present residents, their families, and various staff members and volunteers are setting off on a 120km trek from Roscommon racecourse to Cuan Mhuire in the hopes of raising vital funds that will allow the doors at the facility to remain open 24/7 and 365 days a year.

The ‘Addiction 2 Recovery Walk’ will take place over four days starting on Thursday May 5 and the participants will cover roughly 30kms per day – passing through Athlone, Ballinasloe, Loughrea, Craughwell and Athenry – before finishing up at Sister Consilio’s Cuan Mhuire centre on Sunday May 8 ...
