Milltown woman at heart of GAA
Kathy’s final official engagement was at the annual GAA Congress in the Connacht Air Dome
KATHY Slattery is one of the GAA’s most important figures, male or female, of the modern era.
The Milltown native recently retired from her role as the GAA’s National Finance Manager and, while Kathy’s work may have been largely unheralded within the wider public sphere, she helped oversee major changes from her base in Croke Park, a place she worked in from 1982 onwards.
“It was the old stadium when I came into it. Following the 1983 All-Ireland football final, the plans were done up to redevelop it,” said Kathy, from the townland of Ballymary.
“I’ve seen the Hill built up twice. There has been a lot of development. The Air Dome in Bekan, I worked with John Prenty to help get the land purchased and it is a fantastic facility.
