Tuam plaque puts river life under the microscope
THE unveiling of the poster/plaque entitled The Story of the River on the banks of the River Nanny near the Leisure Centre on September 9 was the result of 18 months’ hard work.
That event itself was the culmination of a long day spent by Chair of Tuam Tidy Towns (TTT) Michael Waldron and artist, environmentalist and educator Gordon D’Arcy visiting local primary schools and awarding prizes to pupils who had successfully entered a colouring competition organised by TTT last year.
The prize was a basket of art materials and a replica poster of the one unveiled. Last year, the schools received beautiful colouring books entitled The Story of the River and were part of a drive to raise the awareness of the younger generation of one small but crucial part of the current environmental crisis on our doorstep.
