Galway set to introduce U-19 club football championship

A NEW U-19 club football championship is expected to start in Galway this season after proposals were outlined to delegates in an online meeting on Monday night.

U-13, U-15 and U-17 have status as the primary underage developmental age groups in the county for 2021, falling into line with national GAA policy from Croke Park. However, both local football and hurling administrators were left with a decision on what age grade to proceed with as the final championship competition bridging U-17 and adult level.

Details were presented by the Football Committee early this week and the intention is to run the U-19 championship on a two-year trial basis.
