Public urged to Vote Galway in bid for Foodie Destination title

THERE’S only a day left for the public to support Galway food producers and eateries in the bid for Galway city and county to become this year’s top Foodie Destination of the Year.
Galway has reached the final and a third of the score is by public vote, which closes tomorrow Tuesday, August 20.
People are asked to show their appreciation of Galway’s amazing food resources, local producers and innovative chefs by voting online for Galway at www.foodiedestintaions.ie.
Earlier this month Tuam was the centre for Galway’s showcase to the judges in the prestigious competition run by the Restaurant Association of Ireland.
Renowned hotelier Deirdre McClone and food and gastronomy innovator and commentator Anthony O’Toole visited Tuam where the Discover Galway Food Experience made a presentation and showcased food producers and eateries at an event in the Wool Store in Brownes.
The judges heard the stories of many of the local producers and were given the opportunity to taste the incredible food available in restaurants and cafes.
Judges were treated to the colour and flavours of Sliabh Aughty Honey, Heneghan Tribal Foods in Athenry, Kylemore Farmhouse Cheese, Gran Grans Food, West of Ireland Wagyu Beef from Lavally, Savage Garden salads and vegetables from Abbeyknockmoy, Wa Sushi and the national range of products of the Foods of Athenry.
Supported by Galway City and County Councils, the showcase also promoted the work of Taste of Oranmore, Leaf and Bean Tuam, Slow Food Galway, newly established Social Enterprise FEAST which brings food culture to schools, Galway Bay Tours and Galway Food Tours.
Judges were hosted by Ronan Byrne, The Friendly Farmer in Athenry and brought to Joe Desmond’s Wagyu Beef Farm in Lavally, Galway Goat Farm in Dunmore, Exclusive Escargot Snail Farm outside of Tuam, followed by dinner in the award-winning Gather Restaurant in Tuam and overnight in Lisdonagh House.
The winner of this year’s Foodie Destination title will be announced on Wednesday, August 28 and the public are urged to vote for Galway at www.foodiedestinations.ie
