Flooded families in Gardenfield want a permanent solution along town bypass
FLOOD stricken families in Gardenfield are hoping for a resolution to ongoing flooding when they meet with officials from Galway County Council and the OPW later this week.
One family with a young child have been forced to leave their home after the road to their property was cut off two months ago, with surrounding farmland submerged under ten feet of water.
Another family living a short distance away has been forced to deploy three pumps to protect their home on a 24-hour basis, as floodwater from nearby Ardacong threatens 12 houses in the area.
A temporary dam was built to protect homes over Christmas, with OPW staff on site on St Stephen’s Day constructing the embankment that has kept the flood water at bay.
Local residents are hoping the construction of the Tuam bypass nearby can offer a permanent solution.
