Independents set to retain two of three in Roscommon-Galway
THE constituency of Roscommon-Galway has again endured tweaking of its boundaries. It was expanded prior to the 2016 general election with a skinny slice of East Galway but has since been given a more generous chunk of the county which certainly isn’t the plate of choice for voters flying maroon and white flags.
There are 11 candidates vying for three seats and while independents’ following has dropped nationally since 2016, it’s unlikely to have dropped in Roscommon-Galway where 53% of first preference votes went to Independent candidates in the last election.
