Catherine Corless honoured at Journalism Awards 2017
FOR the first time in their history, a non journalist received an award at the NewsBrands Ireland Journalism Awards last week.
Tuam amateur historian Catherine Corless was presented with a Special Award for Investigative Research at the awards ceremony which took place on Thursday November 2 in the Mansion House, Dublin.
This one-off award, honoured Catherine’s painstaking research which brought news of the children's mass grave at the Tuam Bon Secours Mother and Baby Home to the world's attention.
The research prompted the launch of a statutory commission of investigation into the burial of infants at the site.
