Final meeting of Tuam Town Council marked with fond farewells

HISTORY came full circle this week when Tuam Town Council concluded its final meeting with the outgoing mayor paying tribute to the town’s first ever First Citizen, who happened to be her father.
Cllr Imelda Kelly thanked all serving councillors and those who had held the position previously for their service to the town, including several of those from the boards of 1999 and 2004 who attended the final meeting in the Town Hall on Monday evening.
She also referred to the minutes of the meeting whereupon the former Tuam Town Commissioners became a town council body, when in 2002 her late father Miko Kelly became the town’s first mayor.
“As history has proven not only locally but nationally and globally change is inevitable and whether we agree or disagree with it our Town Council will be abolished on May 22.
“I would like to thank and remember all past commissioners and councillors both living and deceased who have served this town so well over the years. I am very confident that despite losing its town council Tuam will continue to maintain its community spirit its love of culture, sport, the arts and most of all its fantastic people who make this town such a special place to live.
