Corofin back in bloom for Daffodil Day
FRIDAY’S Daffodil Day will feature local blooms once more following the successful harvest of a daffodil field that was replanted in Corofin, 25 years after the first bulbs were sown to support the annual fundraising event for Cancer Care Research.
The plot at Ardskeamore was taken over by the local Foróige club last October, with members and volunteers taking part in a massive plantation of over 13,000 daffodil bulbs.
The flowers, which have been in bloom for the past week or so, have now been harvested by volunteers from the cancer charity, who will sell them throughout the region this Friday.
The success of this year’s flowers is a huge relief to the local community, after harsh frosts five years ago did irreparable damage to the bulbs initially planted by the first Corofin Foróige Club in 1989.
