Face to face rule to get a new driving licence in Galway is “ridiculous”


THE insistence by the Road Safety Authority that people attend the driving licence centre in Galway in person has been described as “completely ridiculous” by a Galway TD.
Galway East Deputy Michael Kitt says it’s incomprehensible as to why it should be more difficult to renew a driving licence than something as important as a person’s passport.
The RSA has moved to defend the operation of the National Driving Licence Service in Galway but admits that signage for the centre in Ballybrit has been inadequate.
Irate Galway motorists have experienced huge problems and delays in trying to locate the driving licence centre in the business park and two Galway TDs have questioned the necessity for people to attend the centre in person.
CEO of the RSA Moyagh Murdock says additional signage has been erected leading to the Galway centre in Ballybrit and that plans are underway to introduce a postal and online application service.
However, Galway East TD Michael Kitt is extremely disappointed as the postal service will only be available to those who have already made the trip to the Galway city office.
