Galway S.F.C. gets underway

IT may be late starting but the Claregalway Hotel and Bon Secours Hospital-sponsored Senior Football Championship swings into action this weekend with ten first round ties down for decision.
And with the Connacht Championship semi-final clash with Sligo just a fortnight away, Alan Mulholland will be keeping his fingers crossed that all the county players come through unscathed. Without question, Corofin remain the team to beat and given their levels reached last year it’s no surprise to see them installed as the clear-cut favourites. Some bookmakers rate them shorter than even money to claim a 16th title.
In a 21-horse race, it seems an incredibly short price yet they appear to have it all in the class, talent, depth and firepower departments. While their failure to get past Castlebar Mitchels and progress in Connacht was a source of great frustration, their performances inside Galway were ultra-impressive and should they reproduce that form it will be extremely difficult to see anyone take them down.
