Back to Tullamore on Saturday evening for a replay of epic Clash of the Ash
IT was the weekend that kept on giving for GAA supporters in Galway. On Saturday the minor and senior footballers scored fine Connacht Championship wins in Sligo but the real drama and breathtaking excitement was to come on Sunday when our senior hurlers produced an utterly incredible late fightback to stun Kilkenny and snatch an unforgettable draw against the odds at O’Connor Park, Tullamore.
It was the type of scenario that came straight from the realms of fantasy in a game that see-sawed wildly, particularly in the second half.
Both sides had periods of dominance and times also when they will look back and cringe at the way they allowed the opposition to grab vital scores in a frantic encounter.
Scores were level ten times, five in the opening period, including at half-time and, of course, at the final whistle.
This contest had just about everything with both teams playing their hearts out from start to finish and it was only fair that it should end all square. What a match, what an occasion, what a sport!
