Transitions Optical job losses higher than expected

OVER a third of the workforce at a Tuam factory are to lose their jobs following the completion of a consultation period between management and staff at the facility.
Transitions Optical is making 68 jobs redundant at its factory on the Dunmore Road, following an initial announcement last month that up to 60 workers would be affected by the decision to reduce manufacturing volumes at the plant.
A statement released to The Tuam Herald this week confirms that staff have been consulted over the past 30 days on the redundancies, which are due to be completed on a phased basis by the end of the year.
