IT was pretty easy to see why the Galway minor hurling team were inspired by such an innovative manager. Following Sunday’s smashing All Ireland final success over Tipperary Jeffrey Lynskey spoke to the press for six minutes and thirty nine seconds.
That was enough time to see how Lynskey’s thoughtful approach to coaching and management had captured the imagination of a Galway outfit that had commenced the year without much hope or expectation.
“I am delighted with the effort, I am delighted with the management team. I was told last December when I did the interview that this was probably the worst minor team ever,” Lynskey said afterwards.
“When you’re working in a teaching environment you have to have a thick skin. You’re used to comments. You use them to motivate yourself.
When asked to assess Galway’s goal laden performance Lynskey provided a crisp verdict. “You could enjoy the last two or three minutes — when we got the final goal it was a great place to be.
