Milltown edge out Pearses
A CRACKING game of football on Sunday lunchtime ended with Milltown U-15s overcoming Padraig Pearses after extra-time in the Division 3A League final.
Conditions at Tuam Stadium were extremely difficult for both sets of players but the wind and rain failed to prevent them giving it their all and serving up a contest that was high on entertainment and needed ten additional minutes to find a winner.
Milltown shaded it but it was a result that could have gone either way after the Gurteen-Ballymacward side showed great character to keep battling back with well-timed goals in normal time.
Eoin Mannion did most of the damage for Milltown, scoring 2-7 of their overall total, but it was a day they had heroes all over the pitch.
They held a 1-3 to 0-2 lead deep in the first half with points from Mannion, Jack Kirrane and Darren Boyle followed by Mannion’s well-executed finish after he took a pass from Joshua Naughton. Milltown had enjoyed the better of it with defenders Robert Connolly and Terence Godwin and midfielder Cathal Kelly also heavily involved.
