Families in plea to become legal at Tuam halting site
A TRAVELLER couple who have been living illegally on a Tuam halting site say they were offered B&B accommodation by the Council if they wanted to give up their mobile home.
Four Traveller families currently living at the halting site on the Galway Road were instructed by Galway County Council to vacate the caravan bays by last Thursday afternoon. However, the families, who admit that they have been technically squatting at the site since before Christmas, haven’t moved and don’t want to.
Some of the families have been living at the halting site for the past eight months. They told The Tuam Herald that they are more than willing to pay back-rent to the Council and to take up agreements in order to become proper residents there.
