Honorary Doctorate for Catherine Corless
LOCAL researcher and campaigner Catherine Corless has received an Honorary Doctorate from University College Dublin in recognition of her tireless work relating to the site of the former Tuam Mother and Baby Home.
Catherine was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Literature at UCD for "the difference she has made to the world and how we think about our values".
The Brownsgrove woman's research into the deaths of 796 babies and infants at the Tuam home led to the establishment of a Commission of Investigation into Mother and Baby Homes by government and the discovery of a significant number of babies and infant remains at the site of the former Tuam home on Dublin Road.
She has continued to campaign for former residents of the Tuam home and their relatives and family members who are eager to see official excavation works begin with the view to exhuming all remains there and the possible identification through DNA testing.
