Ross refuses to clarify status of Athenry to Claremorris rail review
MINISTER for Transport Shane Ross has refused to confirm that an independent economic review of the Western Rail Corridor has been carried out, separate to the government’s rail review report due to be published shortly.
Part of the review is tasked with examining a proposal to extend the Western Rail Corridor from Athenry to Claremorris, as per a commitment contained in the Programme for Government.
However, there is confusion as to whether or not an independent economic review of this section of the WRC has been carried out.
 Speaking at the opening of the new M17/M18 motorway last week, Minister Ross said the matter was under consideration as part of the overall rail review.
