Matriarch of Kitt political dynasty celebrates her 100th birthday
BRIDIE Kitt, matriarch of the Kitt political dynasty, has just celebrated her centenary and is happily living at home in Lehenagh, Castleblakeney and, as always, still following the events of the day on TV and perusing newspapers.
Her son Eamonn, a former mayor of Tuam, told The Tuam Herald that she was absolutely delighted with the virtual avalanche of good wishes and cards that flowed in as family, friends and acquaintances – including an impressive list of political contacts built up over the years — all wanted to mark this magnificent milestone in her busy and eventful life.
The President, Michael D. Higgins, sent a personal letter and the traditional cheque to mark the occasion. Bridie, of course, would be well aware that Michael D began his political journey as a Fianna Fáil member of the UCG cumann. The President hosted Bridie and her extended family at a reception in Áras an Uachtaráin as recently as 2017 and she treasures that memory.
