New life for old church and new home for bats
BATS in the belfry is an old phrase, and there are certainly bats at home in the old St Andrew’s Church in Kilconly.
But they will not be disturbed by renovation work on the building, and will have a more comfortable home when it is complete.
As progress continues by contractors appointed by Galway Co Council, the committee say that a colony of bats found in the old structure will be accommodated in a better home under a new roof beside the bell tower.
Meanwhile work on phase one of the restoration is continuing to make good progress and both the bats and those involved in the project will be happier once the new roof is put in place.
