People in Ahascragh urged to conserve water

Members of the community in Ahascragh and surrounding areas are being urged to conserve water by the Uisce Éireann.

The appeal comes as a result of the prolonged dry spell which has affected water levels in the Ahascragh River, that supplies the Ahascragh Water Treatment Plant. The plant supplies water for approximately 800 customers in the area.

Uisce Éireann’s Ger Greally has asked customers in Ahascragh and its hinterlands to be mindful of their usage while supply levels recharge.

He said: “The long spell of dry weather in recent weeks has caused levels in the Ahascragh River to decrease and as a result, we are appealing to customers in Ahascragh to be mindful of their water usage in the coming days.”

Preparations are being put in place to supplement the water supply by tinkering water from a neighbouring scheme. This action will assist in maintaining supply, but customers may still experience low pressures and water outages over the weekend.
