Shock as €1.5m in funding ‘just disappears’ for Claregalway works
Plans for a series of safety improvement works in Claregalway have been put on hold after funding for the project was pulled by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).
For the past four years €1.2 million had been ringfenced by the TII to be spent in the North Galway village where a variety of work was scheduled, such as road resurfacing, new footpaths and cycle lanes, pedestrian crossings and a set down area for the national school.
Work could not begin on any of these initiatives until an attenuation pond was built to take any surface water off the road and prevent flooding. However, while this has now been completed, the ringfenced funding is not part of the recently announced national projects for 2025.
