Further Education opportunities showcased at Dunmore open day

GRETB Dunmore is hosting its open day on Tuesday, March 11 with a host of activities and information sessions planned.

The further education centre offers courses in childcare, special needs assisting, digital media, podcasting, journalism, horticulture and culinary. New courses are also being planned.

Representatives from the Petersburg Outdoor Education Centre will be on hand during the day. Attendees can also look forward to food and refreshments provided by the centre’s culinary students.

The open day takes place from 9am-1pm on March 11 and there will be an opportunity to meet the tutors and students and learn about all the courses on offer in Dunmore.

GRETB Dunmore is the first further education centre to be awarded the Pieta House Amber Flag for creating a healthy and inclusive environment that supports the mental wellbeing of its students and staff.

Centre Manager Una Canavan says, “Further education is for everyone, and we should always keep learning. Courses can be done full or part-time or you can even do one module at a time – it can easily blend with everything else you have in your life. We have learners in our centre aged 18 to 80 and there is something for everyone, so come along on the day and take that first step.”

Students have the opportunity to avail of Erasmus opportunities throughout their courses, with a group travelling to Malta last year. This year, there are 13 learners travelling to Sweden.

Over 200 learners recently graduated from GRETB Dunmore in Level 4, 5 and 6 courses, and many have since gone on to third level education or to work successfully in many industries.
