Half of Tuam nursing home beds still unused

HIQA approval awaited

HALF of the beds in the new multi-million Tuam Community Nursing Unit are yet to open, despite plans to have them operational before Christmas.

TThe new 50-bed Joe and Helen O’Toole Community Nursing Unit (CNU) was officially opened last year but has only been operating at half capacity. The entire upper level has remained closed off due to concerns raised by HIQA.

The HSE has carried out alterations and works and the Saolta Hospital Group has confirmed to The Tuam Herald that an application to open the 25 vacant beds has been submitted.
