Fitzmaurice tops again
As boxes opened at 9 am this morning, outgoing Independent Ireland TD Michael Fitzmaurice quickly took the lead as tallies were counted.
At first, Sinn Fein TD Claire Kerrane followed him closely, but the gap grew by midday.
By the time 57 per cent of boxes were opened, Michael Fitzmaurice had already secured 6,604 votes. This was followed by Claire Kerrane (SF) with 5,095 votes.
Fianna Fail’s Martin Daly and Fine Gael’s Aisling Dolan had 4486 and 3435 votes respectively.
As the tallies were coming towards an end with 84 per cent of boxes opened, Michael Fitzmaurice had surpassed 10,000.
The three seats are likely to go to Fitzmaurice, Kerrane and Daly. Fine Gael’s Aisling Dolan doesn’t appear within reach from the tallies.
Final tallies put Fitzmaurice at 11,847, Claire Kerrane (SF) 7,930, Martin Daly (FF) 7,252, Aisling Dolan (FG) 4,831, EUGENE MURPHY (IND) 4231, Dympna Daly-Finn (FG) 2100, ANDREW MANNION (PBP) 807, CORMAC Ó CORCORÁIN (Aontu) 781, Martina O’Connor (GP) 432, Alan Sweeney (TIP) 214, Vincent Beirne (IND) 196.
