Tuam’s Vision of Hope New Year’s Eve Ball launched

A NEW Year’s Eve Ball in Tuam will support the fundraising efforts of two local charities this year — Charlotte’s Vision and Tuam Cancer Care.

The gala ball in the Ard Rí House Hotel promises an unforgettable evening filled with music, delicious food, and great company. Dress to impress and make memories that will last a lifetime.

Charlotte’s Vision was launched in October 2022 by the friends and family of Charlotte Sweeney, a brave young woman from Tuam who died in December 2021 from metastatic breast cancer. The charity is partnered with the National Breast Cancer Research Institute (NBCRI) based in the Lamb Institute in UHG.

Caroline Loughnane, NBCRI said; “A research-informed approach to cancer treatment is key and NBCRI's mission is to raise funds in support of research to develop effective treatments and therapies to combat breast cancer.”

Caroline Downey, Chairperson of Charlotte's Vision, added, "We are so happy to be back again for a third year and share it with Tuam Cancer Care. I have such admiration for what they do, and I know someday, like Tuam Cancer Care, we will change lots of lives. Tuam Cancer Care is for the present, Charlotte's Vision is for the future, a fantastic combination in aid of cancer patients and to fight cancer.”

Tuam Cancer Care provides emotional, psychological and practical support to people with a cancer diagnosis and to their families. All support services are provided free of charge. The charity relies on donations and fundraising to cover 92 per cent of its costs each year.

Currently, the centre is supporting approximately 250 clients, which is a 26 per cent increase on pre-Covid numbers. Support services include Information and Support, Counselling, Complementary Therapies, Manual Lymphatic Drainage therapy, Chair Yoga, Physical Activity Programmes, and Post Mastectomy Care clinics.

Tickets priced €80 are on sale at the hotel and online via Eventbrite.
