The Snuggle Inn is top for cats!
Cattery of the Year Award for Brierfield
THE Snuggle Inn Cattery in Brierfield has been named as the best care home for cats.
The Cattery of the Year Award at the Local Pet Awards ceremony on Friday was given to the Brierfield business, which is owned and operated by Eddie Concannon, his wife Charlotte, and their sons Michael and Kailum.
Like boarding kennels for their canine cousins, the Concannon family look after cats at their cattery when their owners are going away, and the business has been a great success since it began pre-Covid.
“We are 12 to 15 minutes from Tuam and about four miles from Barnaderg village. We were booked up last week. June, July and August are very busy. We were all booked up for Christmas a month or two ago,” offered Eddie Concannon, fresh from picking up the award in the Crowne Plaza Hotel Dublin Airport last week.
“We have 16 units for the cats. There could be anything up to 30 cats at any one time with us, as one family might have two or three cats that need looking after. The cats don’t mix, unless they are the one family of course.
“We took the business over from Muriel Hayden in Athenry. She had been running Cuddles Cattery for about 16 years.”
The Snuggle Inn could be described as a type of luxury home away from their usual home for the cats, as the felines have access to heated bedrooms.
The Concannons have a plethora of animals on site in Brierfield. They have a cat of their own, a dog, two horses, two parrots, five ducks and 20 chickens.
“It’s a mental house,” said Eddie. “Charlotte has done a Masters in cat grooming in England. She is qualifying as a professional cat groomer on Friday.
“She had to go to England for three and a half weeks and do 100 hours for the course. We will have a professional facility for grooming cats here. Charlotte will be doing her first grooming session on Saturday.”
