No extra beds in new €35million 50-bed unit

Portiuncula needs more investment say local councillors

THE 50-bed complex opened at Portiuncula University Hospital (PUH) last week has not resulted in an increase in overall bed capacity at the Ballinasloe hospital.

A spokesperson for the HSE confirmed to The Tuam Herald that the new €35million ward block - a modular building at the rear of the hospital - consists of replacement beds, and allows for the relocation of two existing wards from the main hospital building.
