Tuam Herald shortlisted for Local Media Awards
Finalists in three categories
THE Tuam Herald has been shortlisted in three categories in this year’s Local Ireland Media Awards.
The hotly contested accolades showcase excellence in journalism and the achievements of Ireland’s local news publishers and their staff.
Staff photographer Ray Ryan is once again a finalist in Best Photo of the Year category. Ray’s catching photo of female students attending St Jarlath’s College in Tuam for the first time is among four photos in contention for the award. Ray was thrilled to have won Photo of the Year at last year’s award’s ceremony.
Editor Siobhán Holliman has been shortlisted for two awards. Her story regarding The Tuam Plaza development’s breach of planning regulations is in contention for News Story of the Year.
Siobhán is also a finalist in a new category this year, Best Sustainability Journalist. Her feature on the renovation of the old mill in Ahascragh entitled ‘New life for Old Mill and fading village’ is one of the four to make it to the shortlist in the category.
President of Local Ireland and Head of Irish Times Regionals Dan Linehan said: “We have had nearly 600 entries for the awards which underlines the quality and excellence of our local newspapers and their digital and online platforms.
